EVALUATION OF THE CASTOR BEAN HULLS IN THE FEEDING OF SHEEP: PARAMETERS OF FUNCTION HEPATIC AND RENAL. Abstract: This experiement was assigned to evaluate renal and hepatical functions in sheep receiving four levels of castor bean hulls in the concentrate, as replacement for ground corn (0, 24, 49 and 73%). The experimental design was a 4 x 4 latin square. Leves of urea and creatinine were evaluated as renal function parameters, while phosphatase alkaline, bilirubin, aspartate aminotransferase (TGO), alanine aminotransferase (TGP) and gamaglutamyl-transaminase (GGT) were evaluated as liver function parameters. The levels of inclusion of 49 and 73% of castor bean hulls reduced the concentrations of urea and phosphatase alkaline. For indirect bilirubin blood levels, the inclusion of 73% of castor bean hulls increased it in relation to control diet. The average values of all treatments for GGT, direct and indirect bilirubin and urea were above of the considered normal values. The information generated in these experiments are not conclusive in relation of the use of the castor bean hulls in the feeding of sheep, refuiring futher studies regarding this source of feed. Making products from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) on board the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) polar-orbiting satellites can be time consuming and an automated technique for image processing is required to generate long time series of AVHRR imagery. This paper aims to describe the development of a system for fully-automated AVHRR image processing, including radiometric calibration, precise geo-registration and generating land-surface products, such as vegetation indices, maximum value composites and cloud masks. Tests for crop monitoring purposes were carried out using High Resolution Picture Transmission (HRPT) images between October 2003 and April 2004. The region used to evaluate the system was the State of Paraná, one of the primary soybean producers in Brazil. Results have shown that for severely cloud-filtered images, the system was effective in generating geometrically precise image products, with geolocation errors less than a pixel. The developed system can be operated with no human intervention and can be used as an important tool for NOAA-AVHRR image users especially those who need to use long time series. |
